SUMMARY:Once at Town Hall Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:A young Czech woman approaches a broken-hearted Irish busker on the streets of Dublin. She’s immediately taken in by his music\, most of which he says he wrote for an ex-girlfriend who left him and moved to New York. The busker confesses that he has decided to give up music\, entirely\, because it all reminds him of his lost love\, and those memories are just too painful. When the two strangers meet again\, the young woman snatches the sheet music for his most recent musical composition\, sits down at a piano\, and begins to play. Over the course of the next week\, the two form an unexpected friendship that turns into a creative collaboration that turns into a moving unrequited love story. Featuring all the captivating music from the Oscar winning movie musical of the same name\, Once features a cast of multitalented actor and musicians who will invite audiences into a magical world powered by creativity\, passion\, hope and song.

SUMMARY:‘Night\, Mother (Limited Engagement) at Town Hall Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:“‘Night\, Mother” is a poignant and powerful exploration of love\, loss\, and the complexities of human connection. Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Marsha Norman delivers a raw and unflinching portrayal of a mother and daughter grappling with life’s darkest moments. As the clock ticks inexorably towards a fateful decision\, the intimate confines of their home become a crucible for emotions laid bare. This theatrical masterpiece confronts the depths of despair and the fragile threads that bind us together. Featuring the inimitable talent of Billie McBride and Megan Van De Hey.

SUMMARY:Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike at Town Hall Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:From the outrageous mind of Christopher Durang\, comes this modern-day farcical take inspired by the works of Anton Chekhov. In Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike\, Vanya and his adopted sister Sonia live a simple life at their childhood home\, where they spend their time reminiscing about days gone by and wondering… “What if.” When their moviestar sister\, Masha\, arrives unannounced and with plans to attend a very elite costume party with her dimwitted young buck of boy-toy\, Spike\, Vanya and Sonia’s peace is challenged in hilarious ways. Throw in a fortune telling cleaning woman\, an aspiring young actress and farmhouse full of secrets\, sibling rivalries\, resentments\, and trysts and you have a smart\, raucous comedy that only Christopher Durang could conjure!

SUMMARY:Cannibal: The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Performances on Thursdays\, Fridays\, Saturdays\, and Sundays; times vary by day.\nBefore The Book of Mormon. Before South Park. And wayyy before the grand re-opening of Casa Bonita\, Trey Parker and Matt Stone\, two Colorado local boys who made real good\, created this campy\, whacky\, biographical\, bloodbath of a musical about another (in)famous Colorado boy – Alferd Packer\, the only person in the history of America to be convicted of… yup… cannibalism. Set in the Rocky Mountains\, Cannibal ‘is the true(ish) story of the “Colorado Cannibal” and his band of meaty miners who got lost while searching for gold and girlfriends in the unforgiving terrain during the winter of 1874. Will Alferd be hanged for Cannibalism? Or will he become a guard at the Denver Post\, convert to vegetarianism\, and die in Jefferson County before being buried in Littleton\, Colorado?

SUMMARY:The Prom at Town Hall Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Music by Matthew Sklar | Lyrics by Chad Beguelin | Book by Bob Martin & Chad Beguelin |May 24 – June 23\, 2024\nBig city stars set themselves on a collision course with small town PTA politicians in this sequin-covered musical comedy. Fresh off a humiliating and high-profile flop\, four of Broadway’s brassiest\, sassiest stars decide to put themselves back in the spotlight by finding a noble cause to champion. As luck (and social media) would have it\, a small-town high school in Indiana has gotten itself into some controversy surrounding its prom. A sweet\, courageous young woman wants to take her girlfriend to the dance. But the conservative faculty members and self-righteous parents in the community will stop at nothing to deny the same-sex couple their spin around the dance floor. Enter the belty quirky Broadway quartet to the rescue\, inviting the students to be the kick-ball-change they want to see in the world! \nThe Prom has been celebrated for being joyous\, full of zaaz\, and “…an unpretentious delight.” And we think it’s a perfect\, sparkly\, spectacular way to kick of Spring and close out our 41st season. \nPurchase your tickets early! Ticket prices increase starting May 10th\, 2024!!

SUMMARY:Red at Town Hall Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:John Logan’s taut\, visceral two-hander\, Red\, features Latvian-American abstract painter Mark Rothko at the height of his career. Viewed through the lens of his youthful new assistant\, Ken\, we witness Rothko at the pinnacle of his creativity\, but struggling through the creation of a series of large paintings\, commissioned as a series intended to feature in New York’s brand-new Four Seasons Restaurant. As Ken and Rothko paint\, they challenge each other to ask big questions about art: what it takes to create it and what its role should be in the world. Set in the 1950s\, and based on a series of real events\, Red takes a compelling look at the ever-changing relationship between an artist and his creations.

SUMMARY:Raisin at Town Hall Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:The Colorado Premiere of this powerful\, musical retelling of Lorraine Hansberry’s classic\, “A Raisin in the Sun.” \nMusic by Judd Woldin | Lyrics by Robert Brittan | Book by Robert Nemiroff & Charlotte Zaltzberg Based on the play\, A Raisin in the Sun\, by Lorraine Hansberry | March 22 – April 14\, 2024 \nBe among the first people in Colorado to experience this soulful and inspiring musical about a proud Black family’s quest for a better life in 1951 Chicago. Three generations of Walter Younger’s family are living in a single\, cramped apartment. But when Walter’s father passes away\, and the family receives a substantial life insurance payout\, grief gives way to hope. Walter wants to use the money to open a small business\, while his mother wants to invest in homeownership outside the impoverished community in Southside Chicago\, and to pay for her daughter’s medical school education. This timeless story of family conflict\, forgiveness\, and the pursuit of the American Dream was hailed by New York Times critic\, Clive Barnes\, as “…one of those unusual musicals that should not only delight people who love musicals\, but might also well delight people who don’t.” Translation: Dear Human Being Reading This Brochure\, This show is for YOU!

SUMMARY:Urinetown at Town Hall Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Fantastic show! TERRIBLE title! \nMusic & Lyrics by Mark Hollmann | Book & Lyrics by Greg Kotis | January 26 – February 25\, 2024 \nUrinetown is a sidesplitting satirical musical that lambasts capitalism\, environmental collapse\, municipal politics\, and doomed star-crossed love. (Doesn’t that sound HILARIOUS! Well\, we promise it is!) This three-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been praised for reinvigorating the very artform known as musical theater. In a sprawling but collapsing urban metropolis\, a 20-year drought has caused a catastrophic water-shortage that’s led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens of said metropolis must use public amenities owned and operated by an evil corporation that profits by charging admission to the most popular seat in the house\, so to speak. A hero will arise. A revolution will be sparked. And an unlikely love story will unfold. But will any of it be enough to topple the corrupt and malevolent powers-that-be? Will the people ever again pee for free?! Join us this fall for an irreverent but inspiring comedic romp like you’ve never seen at Town Hall Arts Center\, before. Give it a chance\, and this just might be your new favorite show. (With your least favorite title.) \nPurchase your tickets early! Ticket prices increase starting January 12th\, 2024!!
