Records on Main: Littleton’s Newest Spin on Music Culture

In an age of playlists and algorithms, one Littleton shop is bringing back the soul of music—one vinyl at a time. Records on Main, a family-owned record store nestled right on Main Street, is quickly becoming a hub for music lovers of all kinds. Co-owned by Cassie Chernin and her parents, Marshall and Tammy, the shop opened in May of 2025 and is already making waves in our community.

A Family Affair

Music runs deep in the Chernin family, though owning a record store wasn’t always the plan. Cassie, who comes from a background in digital marketing, shared that her family has always been united by a love of music. “We had a crazy CD collection growing up,” she said. “But we really got into vinyl in the last ten years.” That shift reflects a broader trend, particularly among younger generations. “They grew up in a tech world,” Cassie explains. “Everything was digital. Vinyl gives them something tangible, something real they can hold and experience. And the sound—there’s nothing like it.”

According to Cassie, vinyl offers a “warmer, more detailed” listening experience that streaming just can’t replicate. “You can hear the backbeats, the little things that make up a song. It just sounds better.”

Why Vinyl, Why Now?

The store’s collection is a carefully curated mix of new and used records across all genres. Selections are driven by trends in the Colorado music scene, what’s hot at venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and customer requests. Records on Main is also embracing modern tools—Cassie uses AI to help track trends and diversify their selection. “It helps us understand what’s trending both locally and nationally, so we can bring in records that match the community’s vibe,” Cassie explains.

From Serendipity to Community

Cassie’s path to Littleton was a bit serendipitous. Her parents stumbled upon the storefront while exploring downtown and instantly fell in love with the space’s character—original brick walls, warm wood tones, and a welcoming layout. “It was the first place they saw, and they just went for it,” Cassie recalls.

Originally planning to help with buying and marketing from afar (she was living in California at the time), Cassie made a quick move to Littleton after a family emergency. Now a full-time resident just down the street, she’s all-in on building community through music.

Events & Local Vibes

Beyond the shelves of vinyl, Records on Main hosts live music, listening parties, and even music trivia nights—all in-store. “It’s super homey,” Cassie says. “We order pizza. Set up tables. We have a lot of regulars.” The store also seeks out local talent for performances. They prefer artists who play original songs, and to ensure a strong fan base, performers need at least 500 Instagram followers to be eligible.

Records on Main is a true family operation—every employee is a Chernin. “We’re learning as we go,” Cassie says. “But we’re passionate, and we’re all in.”
