Downtown Littleton’s sidewalks will become an open-air art gallery when Walk the Chalk returns for its fourth year on Saturday, September 5.
Beginning at 8 a.m., artists of all ages and experience levels will transform sections of Main Street into colorful works of art. Visitors can stroll through downtown throughout the day to watch each piece take shape, meet the artists and vote for the People’s Choice award.
Creativity Takes to the Sidewalks
Each participating artist will receive a space measuring at least 4 feet by 4 feet to create an original piece. Prizes will be awarded in adult and youth categories following the event.
Supplies will be provided for children ages 12 and younger, although participants are also welcome to bring their own.
“Walk the Chalk brings another element of art to Downtown Littleton and gives people the opportunity to experience the beauty and creativity of chalk art as it unfolds,” said Kelsey Riley, founder and director of Walk the Chalk. “It’s exciting to see artists of all ages creating alongside one another—and to watch the community gather around and encourage them.”
Live Music and Family-Friendly Fun
The creativity won’t be limited to the sidewalks. Walk the Chalk will also feature live music along Main Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., along with family-friendly activities such as face painting, fairy hair, bubbles, henna tattoos and yo-yo demonstrations.
Get Creative at Arapahoe Community College
Arapahoe Community College will add even more opportunities to experience and create art during the festival. Stop by ACC’s Main Street entrance, near the corner of Alamo Avenue and Prince Street, for a ceramics sale, chalk art and a hands-on jewelry-making station.
The ACC activities offer another fun stop for families as they explore the artwork appearing throughout Downtown Littleton.
Make a Day of It Downtown
Visitors can make a full day of Walk the Chalk by stopping into Downtown Littleton’s locally owned shops, restaurants, coffeehouses and other businesses as they explore the artwork.
Whether you arrive early to see the first outlines appear or visit later to admire the finished pieces, the festival offers a chance to experience art being created in real time while enjoying everything Downtown Littleton has to offer.
